Accenture to Increase Presence in India, China, Philippines
(February 6, 2006 - GlobalSourcingNow) - Accenture will double its
presence in the frontline outsourcing destinations of India, China
and the Philippines from the current 24,000 to about 50,000 over the
next three years. The move would result in a major expansion drive
in India. The company currently employs close to 16,500 people in
the country in its IT, BPO and consulting divisions. A number of major
outsourcing service providers including Oracle, IBM, and Dell have
announced significant growth plans in India to take advantage of the
low cost talent pool.
(Comment from O2P: OK, India continues to grow at a feverish pace....but
the Philippines should also share in this Accenture bounty. I believe
they are the largest outsourcer in the country, and my guess - I have
no inside knowledge even though I used to work for them - is that
the 10,000 staff level is in the offing. Note that Accenture does
NOT do call center work - that component is outsourced to 3rd parties
- so the work performed is in the higher value systems development
and maintenance and the BPO arena.
What about the "low cost talent pool"? What is the Philippines
doing to ensure that our pipeline of qualified and disciplined young
people is kept full? I have nothing against nursing, but it is disturbing
that kids are choosing to not go into computer-related courses in
order to have an opportunity to migrate to nursing or caregiver jobs
abroad. What a pity that the future seems brighter in foreign lands!!).
