News Indian State to Investment INR100BN for BPO Development (December 2, 2005 -
GlobalSourcingNow) - The Government of the State of Punjab, a North Indian province,
has announced that it has earmarked an INR 100 billion fund for the facilitation
and growth of BPO sector in the state. The fund will be directed towards the acquisition
and allocation of 5,000 acres of land to BPO units, across the State. The
fund will also finance the development of required infrastructure. A Government
spokesperson stated that 200 acres of land has already been acquired for the purpose.
Acquisition of another 1,500 acres will be completed by March 2006. The government
has also decided to outsource the management of State's land records to ensure
easy allotment of the land.
(Comment from O2P: This is quite remarkable.
That's US$2 Billion+ being spent by an Indian state to build its outsourcing sector....and
another reason why we have to run even faster to get and keep our share of the
pie. That pie is growing, but so is the number of hungry companies, cities, states,
provinces, and countries who view BPO as the great salvation for their underemployed
educated young populations.) |
