Software
The Philippine software sector has two components. One is the shared services sector, which was pioneered by Accenture in the late 1980s. Now many global brands have similarly established offshore dedicated facilities for internal and client-focused software development services. They include NEC, Fujitsu, Canon, Lexmark, TrendMicro, and Safeway.
The second component is made up of independent software vendors, which itself is divided into two parts. First, there are firms that develop and sell packaged commercial applications, such as Jupiter Systems, whose principal product is an ERP designed for SMEs. Second, other firms focus on providing services in specialized niches, such as the .NET platform, assisting companies who develop and sell commercial software with such tasks as second-generation versions, new technology updates, and specialized modular applications. One such firm is WEBWORKS OS, which in one year from its founding attained profitability and a stable of strategic global clients.
Over 50,000 skilled programmers, systems analysts, and project managers are employed full-time in the software sector, and approximately 15,000 technology graduates join the workforce every year.
Application development services presently offered by the firms include:
Software development management
Analysis and design
Customization
Programming and testing
Reengineering and conversion
Installation and maintenance
Education and training
